Pillow Talk

Pillows are probably one of my most favorite home accessories! They are like little delicious drops of candy on beds, sofas, chairs and everywhere else. Pillows make a room feel cozy, a spot comfortable enough to lay your head on, and a space look beautiful. Over the years of running an online pillow shop and sharing room reveals online I have received lots of good pillow questions! And today I want to answer all the most asked pillow questions!

What size pillows do I buy?

On most sofas you want to put a 24x24 inch pillow in the back and then you can layer in front a 20x20 or a lumbar (12x20) if you want. But I think the biggest thing is to go bigger than you think. If you can’t figure out why your sofa doesn’t have that full luxurious vibe it’s probably the size of your pillows.

King or Queen size bed I’d go for 24x24 or 26x26 Euro inserts/and covers. You can do three in a row or two like I did here! You can also put a 12x20 lumbar in front or any other smaller size!

What type of pillow insert is the best?

Always buy removable pillow covers with pillow inserts. You will want to change them out I promise! You will want to insert your pillow covers with a high quality down or feather insert or at the very least one that feels like feather or down. Those poly form pillow inserts are cheap, lumpy, and stiff. You can’t do the pillow chop, you can’t lay comfortably on them. Sadly, they just don’t look great on a sofa. When you look at a home decor store or influencer’s feed the reason it all looks so plush and lovely is mostly because of the proper inserts. Trust me on this one! Buy high quality inserts once and you’ll be able to switch them out for 10-20 years!

How do I mix and match pillows?

Pick a color palette you like and buy different textures, patterns and colors in that color palette. Don’t be afraid to mix plaid, floral, stripes, geometrics, solids, faux furs, or any other pattern or texture. The more variety you have the better it looks!

Another tip is if you have a light colored sofa then put your darkest color or pattern in back against the light sofa. If you have a dark colored sofa then put your lightest color or pattern against the dark sofa. It looks pleasing to the eye! But just have fun and mix and match and try them in all different match ups!

While my life is too busy right now with kids at busy ages to keep the Quale House Pillow Shop up and running. I still live a life full of pillows coming in and out of my home! So I’m sharing all my favorites I’ve purchased recently and a few that are currently in my cart or on my wish list!
