Boys Modern Plaid Bedroom

My two oldest boys Brody and Beckham share a room. They have shared since they were toddlers and became instant best friends and it’s pretty much stayed that way ever since! They have gone through many different room decor phases over the last 8 houses but this one is my absolute favorite color palette yet.

Inspiration in unusual places

It all started back when Brody got braces last year. He couldn’t stop talking about how much he loved the orthodontist office. It was decorated with modern beams on the ceiling, huge black frame windows, camel leather seats, and a very neutral masculine modern vibe. Ever since he’s talked about how his house is going to be modern and that it’s totally his style.

It’s been fun to see him get excited about what his room looks like! Brody, Beck and I collaborated on this room. They picked their own beds and I made a lot of suggestions on other furniture pieces. I gave them good, better and best options but let them pick and sometimes their choices surprised me. But it’s all come together nicely and while i’m not used to having so many opinions and input its fun to hear what they like, think, and are drawn to. And after all it is their room! What made them freak out the most was when the rug came and it tied the whole room together and they fell in love with their room! Having just moved to a new house, new neighborhood, church, school and leaving a lot of great stuff, people, and what their used to behind they really needed a room they could be excited about.

We still need to paint the walls, pick final art (we think our art might be too big), and decide how to cover the windows to block out the light that comes in at night from the neighbors house. Brody said he doesn’t want curtains and likes how clean it looks but Beckham said he wants his room dark at night. So we are on the hunt for some kind of shade that goes with all the stuff we already have going on.

Paint

Help us pick:

Option 1: Dark Paint color from one of the colors in the rug

Leaning towards one of these colors if we go bold: Dark Green | Dark Grey | Chocolate Brown

Option 2: Some kind of bold trim or light neutral paneling on the walls.

Option 3: A bold stencil or design on the wall behind their beds

Artwork

The boys picked out the artwork, we printed it, purchased frames and when we hung it up Brody and I both felt like it was way too big. We want it to be bold but it may be a bit too big. So do we reprint in a smaller size or look for something completely different? If it were a room for me I’d pick a pretty landscape to go above each bed but it’s a tween/teen boy room and they did not like that idea! They want something modern, bold, and something that looks cool!

We’ll keep sharing as we finish pulling this room together! If you have any other ideas send us a message on our instagram! Hopefully you got a little inspiration today too. And don’t be afraid to look around your doctor offices or other unusual places for a little design inspo!

xoxo,

Lacey
